Ein essenzieller Moment. Das Erwachen, wenn das zaghafte Leuchten eines Rohdiamanten durch einen ehrfürchtigen Schliff zum reinen Leuchten wird. Dann, wenn ein simpler Bachlauf mitten in der Stadt aus der Banalität erlöst wird. Dann, wenn der Wasserlauf mit den rostigen Stäben und den hängen gebliebenen Blättern einen Tanz beginnt, der mich entführt und fasziniert. Ein essenzieller Moment, wach zu werden und zu wissen, dass überall solche Wunderwerke zu finden sind.
Ich wünsche dir viele solche essenzielle Momente.

An essential moment. The awakening, when through a reverent cut, the timid sparkle of a raw diamond becomes a purely shining gem. Then, when a simple stream in the middle of a town is liberated from banality. Then, when the water flow starts a dance with the rusty iron bars and the stuck leaves begin a dance that carries me of. A critical moment to wake up and to know, that all these marvels can be found anytime, anywhere.

Unterwegs an einem der ersten Morgen im neuen Jahr, begegnete mir der Altenberg in Bern in einer faszinierenden Pracht. Ich hoffe, dein Start ins neue Jahr war ähnlich reichhaltig und faszinierend!
(Leider wird eine Bildschirm-Ansicht dem Bildmaterial hier wirklich nicht gerecht. Ich habe das Bild auf einem Hahnemühle FineArt Fotorag vor mir liegen und die Wirkung lässt sich schwer vergleichen. Hier findet sich ein gezoomtes Bild, das Ansatzweise etwas über die Print-Bildwirkung erzählen kann. Nicht immer, aber manchmal ist es eben doch so dass die Grösse zählt…)
On my way on one of the first mornings of the new year, I met the Altenberg in Bern in a most wonderful splendor. I sure hope your start into the new year was similarly rich and fascinating!
(Unfortunately, no screen view lives up to the raw material in this shot. I do have the picture printed on a Hahnemühle FineArt Fotorag paper and the impact simply can’t be compared. Here, you find a zoomed view of the raw material, which might help a little bit to get a feeling on how the print looks and feels. Not always but certainly in this case, size matters…)

Einer dieser seltener gewordenen Momente, da ich alleine durch die Welt streifen konnte. Zuerst war nur das Geräusch in der Ferne, dann der leichte Lichtschimmer und dann war sie da, diese Anziehungskraft des Jahrmarkts. Wie die Motte zum Licht musste ich dorthin. Mir sind die Geräte und Aktivitäten dort fremd, locken mich nicht. Aber der Duft der gebrannten Mandeln, das ekstatische Zucken der Lichter, der ausserirdische Mix der Geräusche… und ich mittendrin mit einer kleinen Kamera. Ich könnte dort Stunden verbringen. Es waren nur 20 Minuten, aber sie bleiben mir in intensiver Erinnerung.
Ich wünsche dir einen ebenso energetischen, farbigen, ekstatischen Wochenbeginn!
One of these rare moments when I was roaming the streets alone. Firstly, there was just the sound in the distance, then the slight glimmer of light, and then it was there, that attraction of the fair. Like a moth to light I had to go there. I don’t fancy the equipment and activities there. But the smell of roasted almonds, the ecstatic twitching of lights, the mix of sounds so out of this world… and me in the middle of all that with a small camera in my hands. I could spend hours there. It was only 20 minutes, but they remain intensely in my memory.
